Memorial Day Caps

I attended my first MLB game of the year on May 27, 2017.

Memorial Day Weekend where the Phillies were hosting the Reds.

I also purchased the authentic Memorial Day Cap that the Phillies, as well as every MLB team would be wearing on this day.

The five stars represent the five branches of the U.S. Military.

I love this cap,however, there is one issue...

Made in China?  What?  How could this be?

Rather than focus on where the cap was made, I would like to put the emphasis on the Memorial Day Caps that MLB teams wear.

Where did this idea originate?

In May 19th of 2007, the Milwaukee Brewers and Minnesota Twins wore these caps for Armed Forces Night:

 

On May 15, 2011, the Milwaukee Brewers hosted the Pittsburgh Pirates and celebrated Military Appreciation Day.  The Brewers wore these caps:

On May 27, 2012, the Pittsburgh Pirates wore camouflage jerseys and caps in a game against the Baltimore Orioles.

These caps were sold to the public as "Military Appreciation Day Caps."

In 2012, the Phillies and most of MLB, wore what has become the July 4th "Stars and Stripes" Cap on Memorial Day.

2013 was the first time that  all of MLB sported the "Memorial Day Cap."

In 2014, the brim of the "Memorial Day Cap" changed to a color used in the uniform.

2015 brought a simple reversal, the cap was the original on-field versio

 and the brim was camouflaged.

In 2016, "Digital Camouflage" was worn..
