This cap recently appeared on ebay with the following description:
1947-1950 Boston Braves Game Worn Used Hat Autographed by Warren Spahn.
Hmmmm...
Look at the above picture something just does not look right.
The condition of the cap (nearly flawless) is a red flag.
When I see underneath, this easy to see that it is not a 1940's or 50's cap.
The cheap wool was not used during that time frame and neither is the plastic reed.
The "B" is sewn onto the cap through the buckram.
You will almost always see player names embroidered into the sweatband in on-field 40's and 50's caps.
The tag tells all and it indicates mid 60's to mid 70's.
Is the autograph is legit? Who knows?
I have a feeling the seller knows that is not a game worn cap.
So why would you trust the authenticity of the signature?
