Caps of the Year

End of the Year Awards

After reading-watching-listening to everyone's best this and best that, why not add one more?

So here goes...

The Tip of the Cap Award for MLB (Specialty) cap of the year is:

Worn on June 17, 2016  by the Tampa Bay Rays as a  tribute to the victims of the June 12th tragedy at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando that killed 49 and left 53 wounded.  These were not mass produced and auctioned of on MLB shop.

The Tip of the Cap award for MLB (Regular Rotation) cap of the year is:

The Pittsburgh Pirates made the pillbox their everyday cap from 1974-1986.  In 2016, this cap was the standard for Sunday home games.  Well done Pittsburgh.

The Tip of the Cap Award for the MiLB  (Specialty) cap of the year goes to:
The Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs (Triple-A affiliate of the Phillies) wore the "Bacon and Eggs" cap  on May 19, 2016 when they played the Toledo Mud Hens.  It is also worth mentioning that the first 3,000 fans received a spatula.  Great Job LV!

I have to mention the Runner-Up for this award because it was so close..

On May 7th, the El Paso Chihuahuas (Triple-A affiliate of the Padres) wore this for a 70's throwback night.  The Padres Taco Bell caps from the 70's would rank amongst by favorite caps of all time.

Tip of the Cap Award for the MilB (Regular Rotation) cap  of the year is:
Hartford Yard Goats
Double-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies
2016 was the first year for the team
This was a very hard choice.

As far as Worst Cap of the Year.....

2016 Stars and Stripes
I'm not picking on the Cubs, you could insert any team on this cap and its equally awful.
